Facial and Nasal Fractures

For a more natural appearance

Could this procedure be right for you?

  • If you have a nasal deformity or crookedness following a nasal injury.
  • If you have a broken bone in your face that may cause a problem with function or appearance.

Intended Result

  • A nasal and facial appearance as close to your pre-injury or desired look as possible.

Procedure Description

  • Correction (reduction) of nasal fractures may be performed under sedation and local or general anesthesia.
  • Closed Reduction: If the injury is "simple," manipulation of the nose with instruments may restore your nose to the pre-injury appearance (no cutting or incisions).
  • Open Reduction: If the injury is "complex," a more involved operation may be required.
  • Other Facial Fractures: Depending on the location of the broken bones, incisions are made in the mouth or other areas where they will not be obvious.
  • The bones are positioned into proper location and small screws are used to keep them in place.

Recuperation and Healing

  • Most nasal surgeries have minimal postoperative discomfort which is easily controlled with oral medications.
  • Facial fracture surgeries may require a hospital stay and have more discomfort and swelling.
  • Your initial swelling is usually gone in ten to twenty days. It may take longer for all of your swelling to dissipate.
  • You will need to avoid contact activities for about a month to allow for proper bone healing.

Other Options For Your Consideration

Additional procedures that may enhance your results include a Septoplasty if your nasal septum has been fractured or dislocated by your nasal injury.

Take Note of These Important Insurance Guidelines

Nasal and facial fracture repairs may be covered by your insurance company. You should obtain pre-approval or denial from your insurance carrier before surgery.
