- If your nose is cosmetically unattractive or does not "fit" with your other facial features.
- If you have a nasal obstruction (difficulty breathing) because of developmental or injury related crookedness of the nasal septum (the structure between the two sides of the nose)—click here for nasal airway procedures in our reconstructive section.
Intended Result
- A more attractive nasal shape with your nose in better proportion to other facial features.
Procedure Description
- Your procedure is done on an outpatient basis under sedation or general anesthesia.
- Open Rhinoplasty: Frequently used for more extensive procedures. This procedure involves one small external incision on your columella (the structure between the nostrils). Bones, cartilage, and soft tissues are reshaped under direct vision.
- Closed Rhinoplasty: All incision are inside the nose. Used for less extensive procedures or when just the tip of the nose needs to be adjusted.
Recuperation and Healing
- You will go home with a small protective plastic splint on your nose that will be removed in one week. Your nose may have a soft plastic splint on the inside which is easily removed in a few days.
- Initial discomfort is easily controlled with pill medications.
- The majority of swelling and bruising subsides progressively over two to three weeks.
- If any sutures are used on the skin, they are removed in four to seven days. Internal sutures dissolve.
- Semifinal result is evident in three months. Your final result is evident in about 12 months, which is the time necessary for complete tissue softening.
Other Options For Your Consideration
Additional procedures that may enhance your results are Chin Enlargement and Laser Skin Resurfacing.
